Essential Oregon Road Trip Tips
🚘 Getting Around
A rental car is essential outside of Portland. Oregon's highways are scenic and well-maintained. Pack layers — weather changes fast. Gas up in towns: remote stretches between cities can have 50+ miles with no services.
🏨 Where to Stay
Book accommodation during UO and OSU football season (Sept–Nov) at least 3–4 weeks ahead — nearby hotels sell out. Crater Lake Lodge books up months in advance for summer. The coast has excellent budget motels in Lincoln City and Seaside.
📸 Best Photo Spots
Crater Lake at sunrise. Multnomah Falls at 6am (no crowds). Haystack Rock from mid-beach at low tide. UO campus clock tower with fall foliage. OSU Memorial Union façade in golden hour. Bend's Deschutes River at sunset.
